‘Nothing to See’ Here: John Oliver Mocks Media’s Breathless Hillary Coverage

Before diving into his 18 minute defense of the IRS, John Oliver briefly caught his viewers up on the latest 2016 presidential campaign news last night by taking a look at Hillary Clinton’s big announcement.

In particular, Oliver marveled at the way media figures spent their Sunday afternoons breathlessly anticipating the official confirmation from Clinton.

“There’s no point trying to build suspense when there isn’t any,” Oliver said. “Because everyone knew this was happening.” He saved his audience the time of watching her two minute campaign video by airing the only “four relevant words” in it: “I’m running for president.”

“That’s it. There is nothing else to see and nothing else to talk about,” he said. “Because, let me be clear: Speculating over who is going to win the 2016 now is like speculating over who is going to win the shot put at the 2016 Olympics. The only thing we know for sure is that Ted Cruz isn’t going to win either.”
