‘Numbers Don’t Lie’: Brian Kilmeade Warns That Democrats Are ‘On a Roll’
Fox News host Brian Kilmeade warned that the Democrats are on a roll since President Donald Trump took office, urging Republicans to shore up their communication strategy for the midterms.
Kilmeade joined The Five on Thursday to discuss, among other topics, the brutal takedown of the Democratic Party penned by The Atlantic’s Mark Leibovich this week. Kilmeade acknowledged that the out-of-power party had many clear blind spots, but claimed that their efforts in state legislatures in the past year have shown they’re doing something right.
“No matter everything you said about land grabs, and Indians who really belong with this land, and all the stuff, the Democrats have flipped twenty-five state legislative seats, and the Republicans have flipped zero,” said Kilmeade.
The host urged Republicans to hone their communication strategy ahead of the upcoming elections, telling his co-hosts that though it might be shocking to comprehend, “the numbers don’t lie.”
“As much as they are whining with pronouns, Republicans have to find a way to communicate that they are the better way,” said Kilmeade. “And they’ve got about seven or eight months to do it, because that group, as misguided as they seem and act, seems to be on a roll, which astounds me to say, but the numbers don’t lie.”
Kilmeade’s words echo similar warnings to Republicans that the midterm season may be challenging after the sweeping wins Democrats achieved in elections last year.
Fellow Fox News host Laura Ingraham issued her own grim assessment of next year’s midterm elections for Republicans, telling viewers in November of last year that “the midterms right now look ugly, unless the Republicans really get serious.”
Republican heavyweights like Karl Rove and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) have also warned of difficult terrain, and even President Trump seemed to be preparing Republicans for the possibility of failure.
“If you go back a long way, the sitting president, whether it’s Democrat or Republican, always loses the midterm, even if they’ve done well,” he told Fox News host Sean Hannity during an interview in January. “Almost always.”
