Obama On Obamacare: ‘You’re Benefiting From It, You Just May Not Know It’

Flanked by a group of women in the White House on Friday, President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, commonly referred to as “Obamacare.” The president said, while some of the law’s benefits have not yet been implemented, many of the provisions that protect patients have already kicked in. “You’re already benefiting from it, you just may not know it,” Obama said.

“It’s been nearly a year since the Supreme Court upheld the law under the Constitution,” Obama said to applause. “And, by the way, six months ago the American people went to the polls and decided to keep going in this direction. So, the law is here to stay.”

“Those of us who believe that every American deserves access to quality, affordable health care have an obligation to now make sure that full implementation moves forward the way it needs to,” Obama added.

The president said that the 85 percent of Americans who have insurance will have no obligations. The law provides those individuals with new benefits, cost control measures, and consumer protections.

“Those things are already in place,” Obama said. “You’re benefiting from it, you just may not know it yet.”

The president promised that, beginning in the fall, the uninsured will begin to be able to purchase “quality, affordable, private plans that work for you.”
