Obama: Ryan Budget Like Groundhog Day, ‘Except It’s Not Funny’

During a speech at the University of Michigan Wednesday afternoon, President Barack Obama tore into the new Republican budget put together by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI). By presenting the same ideas they have put forward for the last several years, Obama said the GOP budget resembles the movie Groundhog Day. “Except it’s not funny,” he added.
President Obama told the students that he believes the Ryan budget will “shrink opportunity” for their generation by giving tax cuts to households making more than $1 million while cutting investment in areas like education and job training.
“Now to give them credit, they do have one original idea,” Obama added, “which is to repeal Obamacare. Because they haven’t tried that 50 times.”
Taking the various component of the budget as a whole, Obama stressed that it looks nearly identical to the policy prescriptions Republicans put forward in past years. “If this all sounds familiar, it should be familiar because it was their economic plan in the 2008 campaign, it was their economic plan in 2010,” the president said. “It’s like that movie Groundhog Day, except it’s not funny.”
Ironically, President Obama’s remarks don’t sound that different from those of Sarah Palin, who called Ryan’s plan a “joke” yesterday. The only difference is that Palin thinks Ryan doesn’t cut spending enough.
