Obama Says He’s ‘Optimistic’ Despite Trump: He’s Not Changing Our Values

obamaPresident Obama told CNN’s Fareed Zakaria in an interview this morning that he’s not too worried about Donald Trump changing the fabric of what the United States’ core values are.

He heralded the U.S.’ “long tradition” of inclusion despite occasional bursts of xenophobia and racism and “anti-immigrant sentiment.”

The president said that patriotism is not about what you look like, but what you believe in, and that core tenet is not going to change just because “Trump’s got a little more attention than usual.”

Obama expressed his optimism that Trump’s message is being rejected by the majority of Americans, especially young people who don’t like intolerance.
