‘Old, But Cogent!’ Stephen Colbert and John Dickerson Pitch Half-Hearted Bumper Sticker For the Biden Campaign
CBS News anchor John Dickerson was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and as his network’s chief political analyst, he had a lot of insight into the current election cycle.
Host Stephen Colbert touched on several subjects with Dickerson, including the seemingly open-ended comments by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and why President Joe Biden’s campaign was privately running polls pitting Vice President Kamala Harris against former President Donald Trump. Recognizing that could be due to the campaign just asking questions after Biden’s presidential debate debacle, the question of Biden’s hemorrhaging support came up, including the call by actor George Clooney for Biden to step down.
Colbert reminded the audience that while Clooney hosted the Los Angeles fundraiser for Biden, he hosted the fundraiser in New York and had a chance to meet the president. He recounted that experience to Dickerson:
Colbert: I saw Biden backstage, I spent some time with him backstage, and people would say, “What was Joe like?” I’m like, “Very old, but, you know, perfectly cogent person.”
Dickerson: Yeah, well that’s… Doesn’t go on a bumper sticker. But…
Colbert: “Old — But Cogent!”
