PBS Anchor Says Trump ‘Not at All Coherent’ in Speeches Compared to Biden

PBS anchor Amna Nawaz said it was “clear” on Monday that former President Donald Trump’s speeches were “not at all coherent” compared to speeches given by his opponent President Joe Biden.

On PBS NewsHour, Nawaz played a clip of Biden delivering a speech in France – during which the president stuttered several times – before playing a clip from Trump’s recent rally in Las Vegas.

In the clip from the Las Vegas rally, Trump spoke off-script after his teleprompter broke down and he called on Biden to take both a cognitive and a drug test ahead of their first presidential debate later this month.

“For all his calls for President Biden to undergo some kind of cognitive test, it’s clear to say Mr. Trump’s remarks are not at all coherent in these rallies,” claimed Nawaz.

NPR White House correspondent Tamara Keith replied, “Mr. Trump’s remarks have never been super coherent in his rallies. I’m not sure that I can weigh in on how much they have veered in the last couple of months, but this split screen has always been there, will always be there. They are different people.”

Keith said that in comparison to Trump’s rally, Biden “never mentioned” his opponent during his own speech, which served as “an implicit split screen with Trump.”

“It was an effort by Biden and his team to draw a contrast with his opponent without saying his name,” she argued.
