Rand Paul Delivers Fiery Speech Denouncing Democratic ‘Hypocrisy’ on ISIS War

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) took to the floor of the Senate Thursday to emphatically make his case in opposition to the U.S. war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. In the process, he accused Democrats of “hypocrisy” for taking a loud anti-war stance under President George W. Bush but supporting war under President Barack Obama.

Paul stressed that he does see ISIS as a “problem” and a “threat,” but said he believes Congress should be taking a more “serious” approach to the debate over going to war. “When we go to war, it’s the most important vote that any senator will ever take,” he said.

“When there were Republicans in office, there were loud voices on the other side,” he continued. “I see an empty chamber. There will be no voices against war because this is a Democrat president’s war.”

“The hypocrisy of that should resound in this nearly empty chamber,” Paul declared, asking, “Where are the voices on the other side?” He accused Democrats of accepting the fight against ISIS for the next few months, seeing “how the election goes” in November, and only then coming back to maybe talk about the authorization of force.

Senator Paul is expected to vote no on this afternoon’s bill that would allow the American military to arm and train moderate Syrian rebels in the fight against ISIS.
