Rep. Steve Cohen: I ‘Regret’ Saying Peter Strzok Should Get A Purple Heart
Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) walked back comments he made that FBI Agent Peter Strzok deserves a Purple Heart for showing poise and grace during a particularly brutal congressional hearing.
After he gave his two cents about the new set of Mueller indictments – the purpose for which he was brought on to CNN – Cohen quickly explained what he meant by his comments before the network ended his segment.
“I said something at the hearings yesterday about Purple Hearts which another network that’s is named for a four-legged animal has been making a big deal about,” Cohen said. (Psst! He meant Fox News!)
“I regret using the term ‘Purple Heart,'” he continued. “I used it metaphorically, not literally. I never literally thought the Purple Heart should be given to Agent Strzok, but I do believe that he was being attacked because the FBI and the Mueller investigation were under attack.”
“They do not need to be attacked. They are strong units defending America, and these indictments go to prove it once again,” he added.
Asked whether he believes Democrats are at all to blame for the “politicization of the Mueller investigation,” Cohen responded in the negative.
“We’re trying to protect [Mueller] and see that that investigation goes according to the facts and that the truth comes out,” he said.
