Rev. Al Sharpton And GOP Rep. Spar Over Controversial Voter ID Law On PoliticsNation
Thousands of Alabamians congregated in Montgomery on March 5th to protest the proposed voter ID law which would require official state or national ID in order to vote. In attendance, Rev. Al Sharpton who rallied on behalf of the protesters. He was able to meet up the Republican Representative from Alabama, Jay Love. As suggested in the title, the two can’t come to an agreement on the issue, subsequently Sharpton raises his voice.
Sharpton questioned Love, “How do you justify Alabama’s new voter laws when widespread fraud just doesn’t exist?” Love responds, “Well, I’ll disagree with you, in the last three years, we’ve had three people convicted of voter fraud in Alabama… And what I am trying to do as a state representative is protect the sanctity of that vote”
Sharpton opposed the law because he suggests that it will prevent 5 million potential voters from reaching the polls, according to The Brennan Report. Sharpton adds, “Thousands of those people can’t vote because of three people in the last three years? Because they don`t have state ID, they don’t drive, they don’t have passports. They will not be able to vote.”

Love rebutted, “I don’t know of anybody that will be denied the right to vote. And we provide a free state ID in Alabama for those individuals that don’t have a driver’s license.”
Sharpton argued that the means of acquiring this priceless treasure would prove to be too difficult, “And they have to go and use all kinds of means to come down and try to acquire it.”
The discussion continues with they’re thoughts on pre-clearance, followed by a friendly adieu
