Rick Wilson Goes Off on Ben Ferguson in Heated Clash Over Trump: You’re ‘Defending the Indefensible!’

Rick Wilson and Ben Ferguson got rather heated on CNN this afternoon over how the White House has been handling the flap over President Trump‘s comments to a Gold Star widow and the ensuing fallout.

Chief of Staff John Kelly defended the President and criticized Rep. Frederica Wilson, but inaccurately criticized her on one point. Sarah Huckabee Sanders implied that criticizing Kelly at all is “highly inappropriate.”

Ferguson lamented how a discussion about military families became political, even bringing up the widow who shared the video from her call from the President, and said no President ever calls any grieving family with the intent of insulting the family.

Wilson said he agrees that it’s hard for most people to contemplate the pain these families are going through, while adding, “My difficulty with today was not just that the President extended the pain and kept the political fight going, but he did it in a way that was typical Donald Trump. It was ‘me me me, I’m the winner.'”

He said if the White House was more “dignified,” they should have avoided further comment after Kelly’s remarks instead of how Huckabee Sanders kept “digging” today.

Ferguson pushed back and said the White House just wants to “correct the record,” but Wilson shot back that it’s “juvenile tweeting” and told Ferguson, “I get it, you’re going to defend him no matter what!”

He accused Ferguson of “defending the indefensible,” and Ferguson hit back at Wilson by saying he’s the one who’s acting juvenile.

Wilson retorted, “I’m not the President, Ben.”
