SC Gov. Nikki Haley: ‘We Will Absolutely’ Go for Death Penalty

After “cleaning house,” The TODAY Show quickly moved on to its ongoing coverage of the Charleston church shooting in South Carolina. One of the more prominent segments was Savannah Guthrie‘s chat with Gov. Nikki Haley outside of the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church where nine people were killed on Wednesday night.

The two discussed many things, but one of the more pointed questions concerned whether or not the state would pursue the death penalty in the eventual trial of suspect Dylann Storm Roof. Haley’s response?

“Without question, yes. And in South Carolina… These are nine families that are struggling. This is a state that is hurt by the fact that nine people innocently were killed. We will absolutely, will want him to have the death penalty. This is the worst hate that I’ve seen, and that the country has seen, in a long time. We will fight this, and we will fight this as hard as we can.”
