Sean Spicer Criticizes White House Press Corps For Using Language He Used a Day Earlier

White House press secretary Sean Spicer criticized the press corps Tuesday for using language to describe the Trump administration’s “extreme vetting” that he had used only a day earlier.

Spicer butted heads with reporters at the daily briefing who called the action a “ban.” The president made clear, Spicer argued, that “this is not a Muslim ban, it’s not a travel ban, it’s a vetting system to keep America safe. That’s it, plain and simple.”

When reporters pointed out that the president himself had called it a “ban,” Spicer insisted Trump was only using the terminology the media was using. “It can’t be a ban if you’re letting a million people in…” he insisted. “That is by nature not a ban.”

But as WaPo‘s Aaron Blake pointed out, that’s also exactly the language Spicer himself used at a George Washington University lecture Monday. “The ban deals with seven countries that the Obama administration had previously identified as needing further travel restrictions,” he told students.
