‘Shame on You!’ Whoopi Goldberg Goes OFF On Republicans for ‘Torturing’ Women by Blocking Legal Paths to Abortion
Whoopi Goldberg accused anti-abortion proponents of “torturing” women by blocking their legal pathways to the procedure without caring about the consequences of their opposition.
The View began on Wednesday with Goldberg discussing the news that a federal appeals court ruled that Texas can ban emergency abortions despite federal guidance urging doctors to perform abortions if necessary to stabilize emergency room patients. The suit marks the continuation of legal battles for abortion rights after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and Texas laws have been in focus lately over the case of Kate Cox, who had to flee the state to get an abortion after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) threatened to prosecute any Texas doctors who helped Cox terminate her pregnancy. This despite the fact that Cox’s fetus has been diagnosed with a fatal condition, and her health is at risk if she carries it to term.
“So, they’re okay with forced childbirth even if it kills someone, because they’re so pro-life,” Goldberg scoffed. Alyssah Farah Griffin agreed by calling abortion laws like those in Texas are “draconian and backwards” if they won’t allow abortion ban exceptions for cases of incest, rape and protecting the mother’s life.
As the panel broke down the ruling’s impact on the fight for abortion rights, Goldberg drove the argument that Republicans are purely interested in exerting power over women. This was laden with numerous references to the Cox case.
For me, it feels like this is just a power play. You want to make sure that you have control over somebody’s body, whether it kills them or not, and you don’t care whether it kills them. You don’t care that you are tearing this woman up! She didn’t want to have an abortion. She wanted a baby! The baby is not viable. She doesn’t want to go through this and yet you are sitting there allowing this torture to happen.
That’s what’s wrong, is you are torturing someone and you know it! Shame on you!
