Stephen Colbert Fires Back at Trump’s Chicago ‘Slander’ With Blunt, 2-Word Putdown

Comedian Stephen Colbert fired back at President Donald Trump’s characterization of Chicago as the “most dangerous city in the world” with a blunt two word putdown: “F*ck you!”

The response came one day after Trump vowed to deploy the National Guard to the city to fight crime, after weeks of reciting statistics on Truth Social as justification, despite officials in the state flatly rejecting the idea as “unhinged.”

“Well, we’re going in,” the president told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday, before quickly hedging: “I didn’t say when we’re going in.”

Trump pointed to a spate of shootings over the Labor Day weekend as justification for federal intervention, claiming Illinois’ Democratic governor JB Pritzker should have already asked Washington for help.

On Wednesday’s Late Show, however, Colbert kicked off his monologue by mocking Trump’s broadside before more seriously clapping back at his vilification of the city:

How dare you, sir! Chicago is not a hellhole right now. Chicago is not a hellhole until February. Then, then, it is subzero windswept vista of frozen Lake Michigan, trudging out of your affordable apartment to meet your improv friends at Twin Anchors for a craft beer and a double cheeseburger. Hellhole. Mmm. Hellhole.

Yesterday, Trump also posted… “Chicago is the worst and most dangerous city in the world, by far.” Worst and most dangerous? Two words: F*ck You!

The host continued: “You know what? Two other words. Daytona Beach.”

Dissecting the president’s “slander” that “Chicago is the murder capital of the world,” Colbert simply replied: “No!”

He pointed to “22 major cities” with higher murder rates than Chicago, including in red states.

Returning to his defense, Colbert retold how he’d lived in the city for over a decade: “This is a scary time for the people of Chicago. And I love the people of Chicago. I used to be a people of Chicago. In fact, I lived there 11 years. Lived there seven years. Started my career there. We took our show to Chicago last summer, had an amazing time.”

“But come to think of it, you know what? A lot of us did come home murdered,” he jibed.
