Stephen Colbert Wonders If He’s ‘Living in a Nightmare’ After Agreeing With Tucker Carlson in Ted Cruz Blowup
Stephen Colbert had to ask for a slap in the face after he found himself agreeing with Tucker Carlson’s arguments in the former Fox News host’s fiery Iran debate with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX).
On Wednesday’s The Late Show, Colbert reacted to Carlson’s fiery exchange with Cruz with shock after admitting Carlson made a “good point.” In the interview, Carlson fiercely debated Cruz on the potential of the United States bombing Iran and getting more aggressively involved in the increasing fighting between Iran and Israel.
The pair debated the Bible and more during their exchange and swapped plenty of insults, with Carlson calling Cruz a “sleazy feline” at one point.
“It’s so wild to see these two fighting, but I gotta say, in an argument between Tucker Carlson and Ted Cruz, I’m rooting for a sinkhole,” Colbert said after showing a clip of Carlson admonishing Cruz for wanting to “topple” the current Iranian regime, but not knowing the population of the country itself.
Colbert then aired a clip of Carlson continuing to question Cruz’s knowledge of Iran, specifically the ethnic makeup of the country. Cruz grew frustrated and called Carlson’s questions “cute.”
“You’re a senator who’s calling for the overthrow of the government and you don’t know anything about the country!” Carlson said, laughing at the senator.
“Oh my God, did did Tucker Carlson make a good point?” a surprised Colbert asked. “Am I living in a nightmare? Mark, deploy the slapping arm.”
A fake arm was then used to slap Colbert in the face.
“I’ll hold this from now on,” Colbert said, snatching the arm, and moving on from Carlson.
