‘The Governor of New York Is a Dolt’: Carville Blasts Kathy Hochul for Not Removing Eric Adams

James Carville blasted New York Governor Kathy Hochul, a fellow Democrat, for not removing Mayor Eric Adams from his position as mayor of New York City.

Several prominent New York Democrats have called on Hochul to exercise her unusual power to remove the scandal-ridden mayor under a provision in the city’s charter. The provision allows the governor to oust the mayor “upon charges” that the governor is allowed to set forth, so long as the mayor is given “an opportunity to be heard in his defense.”

Adams was indicted by the U.S. Department of Justice last year on corruption charges involving the Turkish government. Prosecutors alleged the mayor “abused his position as this City’s highest elected official, and before that as Brooklyn Borough President, to take bribes and solicit illegal campaign contributions.” Last week, however, President Donald Trump’s DOJ moved to drop the charges against Adams, who had reportedly sought a pardon from Trump. Adams, a Democrat, has publicly indicated an eagerness to help enforce Trump’s immigration policy in the city.

On Friday, the mayor even appeared on Fox News with Trump’s border czar, who appeared to suggest Adams could find himself in trouble again if he doesn’t play ball.

“If [the mayor] doesn’t come through, I’ll be back in New York City,” Tom Homan said. “And we won’t be sitting on a couch. I’ll be in his office, up his butt, saying where the hell is the agreement we came to?”

Carville appeared on Monday’s edition of The Beat on MSNBC, where he ripped Hochul for not moving against Adams, who has seen four top officials in his administration resign in recent days. Last week, several Justice Department prosecutors quit rather than seek to have the charges dropped against Adams.

“We’ve had four deputy mayors resign,” he said. “We’ve had four people – many of them dedicated conservatives – resign from the Southern District of New York. I’m sorry, the governor of New York is a dolt. Why she doesn’t get that guy out of there pronto, I have no idea… She’s leaving that guy… who, from all appearances, is a major criminal.”
