‘The Past is the Past’: Brian Stelter Reveals Whether He’d Return to CNN If Offered His Show Back
Former CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter threw cold water on the idea of his return to CNN Tuesday, more than a year after his show was canceled.
During an interview with Stelter on his show Dan Abrams Live, NewsNation host Dan Abrams asked the former Reliable Sources host whether it was “a little weird” returning to CNN as a guest this week to promote his new book.
Stelter replied, “It was really great to be back in the hallways and look around and see that nothing had changed.”
“Were you mad?” questioned Abrams. “Coming back there, was there a sense of frustration? Frustration at thinking of all the things you could’ve done, for example, if things had been a little different in management?”
Stelter insisted, “Oh gosh, no,” before adding, “Getting pushed off the treadmill was the best thing that ever happened to me. I get to be home with my kids, make breakfast in the morning, lose some weight, actually have a life again. You should try it sometime! Getting fired, it’s pretty great.”
He continued, “I think the past is the past. I think it was a great phase of my life, and it’s kind of wonderful when you start to view the world that way or view your life that way. A series of chapters as opposed to desperately trying to get back.”
After Abrams asked, “If they called you tomorrow and said we’d like you to do a weekend show again, would you do it?” Stelter replied, “I really don’t think that would happen and I don’t think I would want to do it.”
Stelter’s Sunday morning show Reliable Sources was canceled in August 2022 under former CNN CEO Chris Licht’s controversial tenure at the network.
