Todd to Cummings: Why Did Benghazi Dems ‘Shield’ Hillary Instead of Ask Tough Questions?

todd cummingsChuck Todd confronted Benghazi Select Committee member Elijah Cummings this morning on Meet the Press over why he and the other Democrats on the committee spent most of last week’s hearing defending Hillary Clinton instead of asking tough questions about security.

Todd said that only 16 out of all the Democrats’ 68 questions could be considered “challenging,” and asked, “Why did you guys choose a strategy of shield rather than a strategy of––really, what Tammy Duckworth did, probably the one Democrat who did it the most––of conducting a hearing? Asking questions about the security situation?”

And yes, some of the biggest moments from the Democrats during the debate were pronouncements that the hearing is a partisan witch hunt.

Cummings told Todd this was about getting to the truth and more about “making sure the record was complete” as opposed to defending Clinton.

Todd brought up an email Clinton sent on the night of the Benghazi attack saying it was the fault of a terrorist group, but Cummings said Clinton gave a reasonable enough explanation for that.
