Trump Declares ‘I Had a Very Good Experience With TikTok’ as Supreme Court Weighs Ban

President-elect Donald Trump credited TikTok with his success among young people in the 2024 election and told Newsmax he “had a very good experience” with it after being asked for his thoughts on the app’s potential ban.

During an interview with Trump on Monday’s Rob Schmitt Tonight, host Rob Schmitt asked Trump about the Supreme Court’s impending decision on whether TikTok should be banned if it isn’t sold to a U.S. company before January 19.

“Is TikTok going to be sold? If it isn’t sold, what are you going to do?” asked Schmitt. “Are you going to have an influence on this?”

Trump responded:

They’re waiting to see what happens at the Supreme Court, Rob, as you know, and so we’ll see what happens there. That’s gonna have a big influence on whatever’s going to happen, but we’ll see. Nobody really knows what that’s going to be, and I will make a decision. I must say, I was on TikTok for the election and I won the young people by 36 points.

No Republican’s ever won the young people and I won by– you saw that, one of the best groups, I won by 36 points. I was on TikTok, I had TikTok Jack working for me, he was a young guy, 21 years old, he was great, and we won young people.

He continued, “We won young people and I think that’s a big credit to TikTok, so I’m not opposed to TikTok. I think, you know, let’s see what happens. I really have to wait to see what happens at the Supreme Court because nobody knows what they can do and who’s gonna do it until they hear from the Supreme Court. They’re gonna be making a ruling pretty soon. But I had a very good experience with TikTok.”

Schmitt replied, “That’s great. It’s just who owns it and what they do with the information, I guess, is the scary part.”

Trump laughed before concluding, “There’s a little truth to that, yes.”

In 2020, Trump signed an executive order effectively banning the Chinese app, before reversing his position and vowing to defend TikTok during the 2024 election.

“For all of those who wanna save TikTok in America, vote for Trump,” he declared in a September campaign video. “The other side’s closing it up, but I’m now a big star on TikTok.”

He warned, “The other side’s gonna close it up, so if you like TikTok, go out and vote for Trump. If you don’t care about TikTok and other things, like safety, security, and prosperity, then you can vote for a Marxist who’s going to destroy our country.”

Last month, Trump urged the Supreme Court to delay a ban of the app, which is set to come into effect on January 19, just one day before his inauguration.
