Trump Didn’t Like Scalia’s Comments on Affirmative Action

No, you’re not reading that wrong, the leading Republican presidential contender said on CNN this morning he didn’t like Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia‘s remarks on affirmative action.

During oral arguments in an affirmative action case, Scalia put forth the idea that black students are being pushed into schools too advanced for them and they might benefit from “slower track” education.

As Mediaite’s Alex Griswold wrote last week, Scalia may not have been necessarily sharing his views, just bringing up a point of view that has been circulated around the issue before.

When Jake Tapper asked Trump what he thought of Scalia’s remarks, Trump stayed very, very vague. He repeatedly called Scalia’s remarks “tough” and said “I don’t want to comment on them.”

Tapper asked, “Tough in a bad way or in a good way?” Trump answered, “Very very tough to a certain community.”

Tapper eventually got an answer out of Trump: “I don’t like what he said, no.”

He said he was a little surprised when he read the oral argument, and when asked about his own views on affirmative action, he instead bragged about his black friends and slammed President Obama for doing “very little” for African-Americans.
