Trump ‘IS Going to Run’ for Third Term, Bannon Insists to Maher: ‘He’s Gonna Be President’ in 2029

Right wing pundit Steve Bannon, former top confidante and strategist to President Donald Trump, told a skeptical Bill Maher Friday Trump will not only definitely run again in 2028 but will win his third White House term, despite the prohibition in the U.S. Constitution.

On HBO’s Real Time Friday night, Maher brought up the persistent talk in political circles about whether or not Trump intends to try for a third White House run. Trump has repeatedly toyed with the idea, seemingly trolling, and even said he would welcome a third term run from former President Barack Obama.

Bannon said Trump will run and win, but made sure to point out that’s not something the president has said himself — so far.

“President Trump is going to run for a third term,” Bannon insisted. “And President Trump is going to be elected again. On the afternoon of January 20th, 2029, he’s going to be President of the United States.”

A doubtful Maher pulled out a pocket-sized copy of the Constitution and read aloud from the 22nd Amendment, which clearly states, “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”

Bannon, unmoved, suggested Maher should autograph the document for him after the show.

“It seemed like there was no wriggle room there,” Maher continued. “It said only two times.”

Bannon continued to debate, saying there’s a “team of people” working on that limitation. When Maher objected that no team can change what the words actually say, and after some back and forth, Bannon repeated his self-assured prediction.

When I backed President Trump when I was running Breitbart, they said I turned Breitbart into Trump Pravda. The odds there, he polled at zero. Then later in 2021, after he got back to Mar-a-Lago when Fox abandoned him and the Murdochs abandoned him, the Republican Party abandoned him. The odds were longer then. So our group, the MAGA movement and the tip of the spear of the MAGA movement, we’ve had long odds before. We’ve come out winning twice. And we’re gonna come out, we’ve got long odds on this. We’re gonna come out a third time. On the afternoon of the 20th of January, 2029, he’s gonna be president of the United States.

Maher dished on his recent meeting with Trump earlier in the show.

The longtime Trump critic described the president as “gracious and measured” and added, “I’m just telling you what I saw, and I wasn’t high.”
