Trump on Abortion Flap: ‘Could Be That I Misspoke But This Was a Long Convoluted Subject’
Donald Trump appeared on Fox News tonight to defend himself amid the ongoing controversy over his abortion position, saying it was a “long convoluted” topic.
Trump told O’Reilly Factor guest host Eric Bolling that his true position is not the one Chris Matthews got him to say about “punishments,” but the one he pushed in a statement afterwards. He said “that’s the way I’ve always felt” and repeatedly emphasized that he is just like Ronald Reagan on abortion.
Bolling asked him if he just misspoke when Matthews kept grilling him.
Trump said, “It could be that I misspoke but this was a long, convoluted subject.” He claimed it had been edited and people didn’t hear the whole thing.
UPDATE –– 9:42 pm EST: An MSNBC spokesperson has provided Mediaite this statement:
The town hall interview with Donald Trump was taped in advance and then aired in its entirety. Absolutely no part of the exchange between Trump and Chris Matthews was edited out.
