Undecided Women Voters Savage Trump in CNN Focus Group: ‘Put Him Under the Jail!’
A CNN focus group of North Carolina women who are undecided about the 2024 presidential election had some unfavorable words about Donald Trump.
The former president is headed for a 2020 rematch against President Joe Biden. Polls show a tight race in which women, who largely favor Biden, could be decisive.
Moreover, Trump faces 88 criminal counts across four jurisdictions and has pleaded not guilty to all counts. He is currently on trial in New York for falsifying business records.
CNN’s Randi Kaye spoke with seven undecided voters who shared their thoughts on Trump and his criminal cases. All seven women said they believe Trump should be on trial in the New York case.
“He completely sees himself as Teflon,” one said in the segment that aired on Monday’s AC360. “And I’m really nervous that he’s starting to look like he’s right.”
Another said she has heard enough complaining from Trump.
“How many times can you say it’s a witch hunt?” she said. “I’m personally tired of hearing it.”
Kaye asked the group about Trump possibly violating the gag order in his New York case:
KAYE: So, prosecutors say that Trump has violated his gag order – attacking the prosecutors, witnesses, jurors. Does any of this surprise you?
WOMAN 1: This person has something more powerful than money. He has an audience. He has a rabid audience that is very willing to do whatever they want. So then, does even a thousand dollars per violation or you know, going to jail for any period of time – is that enough, given his influence?
WOMAN 2: He’s gonna have to go to solitary because Secret Service cannot protect him in general population.
WOMAN 3: I don’t care! Put him under the jail! We do not shrink from putting other inmates in solitary confinement. Put him there and shut up. He can talk to the walls. He can talk to the rats. I don’t care.
Afterward, Kaye told Anderson Cooper the women she spoke with are concerned that if Trump is convicted and goes to prison, this will “ignite his base.”
“But you could hear how really disgusted they are with Donald Trump,” Kaye added. “And there were two women in our group who had voted for Donald Trump. So, they are undecided, but certainly very turned off by Donald Trump and very concerned about what might happen in this trial.”
