Van Jones Lights Up ‘Despicable’ New Trump Appointee Pulled From ‘Trash Can’: One of ‘The Worst People Ever Born’

CNN’s Van Jones laid into President Donald Trump and one of the newest appointees in his administration, Darren Beattie.

On Sunday, it was reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will appoint Beattie as acting Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy. Beattie was fired from his speechwriting position during Trump’s first term after he was found to have attended a meeting with White nationalists. Now, however, that does not seem to be an impediment to serving in Trump’s second administration.

Shortly after word broke of Beattie’s appointment, a tweet he posted in October began making the rounds.

“Competent white men must be in charge if you want things to work,” he wrote. “Unfortunately, our entire national ideology is predicated on coddling the feelings of women and minorities, and demoralizing competent white men.”

During Monday’s AC360 on CNN, Anderson Cooper discussed Beattie’s appointment with Jones and Alyssa Farah Griffin.

“I think it underscores how different Trump 2.0 in the second term will be than the first,” Griffin said. “And what I mean by that is, I think that there are many Americans who voted for Trump this time because they wanted what they got the four years he was in office before. But this is already gearing up to be a very different administration. And somebody who was considered persona non grata and was fired in 2018 when these things came to light, is now in an acting undersecretary role, a position that was previously held. I would note, by two qualified women in the first Trump term.”

She concluded, “Trump is going to get who he wants, where he wants it.”

Jones was far less measured in his assessment.

“This is shameless and despicable,” he began. “They are saying they only want quality. ‘We’ve got to go with quality. We’ve got to go with excellence.’ And then they bring in people out of the trash can. They just go drag out horrible people who you wouldn’t hire to run a bodega and put them in the highest positions. And so it’s the gaslighting of Americans, attacking Black people, attacking brown people, saying we’re not good enough. And then they go get the worst people ever born and put them in high positions.”
