Vietnam Vet Gives Trump Purple Heart: ‘Couldn’t Think of Anybody More Deserving’

A Vietnam War veteran gave former President Donald Trump a Purple Heart.

During a town hall in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Trump sat down with Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and took questions from the audience. At one point, Luna informed him there was a man in the audience who had wanted to give Trump a “small token” of appreciation.

It turns out was the man’s Purple Heart, which is given to soldiers wounded in action.

“I wanted to read this to the crowd,” she said, referring to the man. “He had actually written a letter to you after you’d been shot in Pennsylvania. ‘Dear President Trump, watching you during the Butler rally, and you getting back up, both my wife and I gave a sigh of relief as well as a few tears. I would be honored if you would accept this small token I received as a young marine in Vietnam. My wife and I both thought it appropriate. God bless you, your family, and the United States of America. Sincerely, Dwight.'”

Dwight appeared on stage and presented Trump with an envelope.

“It looks like a check,” Trump said. “It’s a check. It’s cash.”

Luna chimed in to say, “For those of you who may not know, Dwight had given President Trump his Purple Heart.”

The crowd oohed as Trump said, “That’s right. That’s right.”

“I couldn’t think of anybody more deserving of a Purple Heart,” Dwight told Trump, who avoided service during the Vietnam War due to what has been described as bone spurs on his feet.

“Thank you,” Trump replied.

“You took it,” Dwight said on the attempt on Trump’s life in July. “You laid down there, you got back up, and the first words out of your mouth was, ‘Fight, fight, fight.'”

The crowd cheered.

Trump then claimed that when a person is shot in the ear as he was, “it bleeds more than any other part of the body.”

It is at least the second Purple Heart Trump has been “awarded.” During a rally in Ashburn, Virginia in 2016, a retired lieutenant colonel gave the soon-to-be-resident the medal.

“I always wanted to get a Purple Heart,” Trump declared at the time.

After Trump finished interacting with Dwight, the former president immediately looked at the chair he’d been sitting in and said he would not sit back in it.

“Beautiful guy,” Trump said of Dwight before fixating on the chair. “I think I’m gonna stand. This chair is the most uncomfortable chair. It, first of all, it spins. And one thing I don’t want is to fall on my ass because that’s gotta be– that will be the only story. They’ll say, ‘Sir, you did great. Too bad you fell.’ That would be the only story. So, I’m not sitting in that sucker. I think it’s a boobytrap. That was put there by Kamala.”
