WATCH: Footage Shows Chaotic ICE Arrest at Migrant’s DUI Court Hearing
Dramatic surveillance footage from a New Hampshire courthouse showed the chaotic moment that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents tackled a migrant — and inadvertently took down an elderly man in the process — during an arrest.
The February CCTV footage shows ICE agents detaining 33-year-old Arnuel Marquez Colmenarez, a Venezuelan national, as he arrived for a DUI arraignment in Nashua. The scene escalated fast: agents attempted to grab Marquez Colmenarez as he exited an elevator, prompting a scuffle that spilled into the hallway, where an elderly man using a cane was knocked to the floor.
“There were voices yelling, ‘Stop!’ and then a loud ‘bang,’ which sounded like people had fallen on the ground and were actively fighting and struggling,” wrote Jared Neff, a Hudson police court liaison, in his incident report. Neff said Marquez Colmenarez “actively resisted” attempts to handcuff him.
Marquez Colmenarez was facing charges of drunken driving, driving without a license, and failing to provide information after a crash. He never made it to court. A judge later issued a bench warrant for his missed appearance. ICE now reportedly has him in custody in Texas.
The prosecutor wasn’t informed of the federal action beforehand and didn’t witness the arrest. ICE agents reportedly told local authorities they intended a low-key detention inside the elevator — but it quickly unraveled.
ICE is “focusing all its law enforcement personnel on mitigating public safety threats and preserving the integrity of our immigration laws,” the agency said in a statement to Reuters,
