‘We Can Make the Case’: Bernie Sanders Thinks He Could Appeal to Trump Supporters
Bernie Sanders thinks he has a chance at winning over Donald Trump supporters because he can speak to their frustrations without devolving into demagoguery.
He explained to John Dickerson on Face the Nation that Trump’s supporters are mostly working-class people with legitimate anger at the government who are suffering economically. And what Trump’s done, Sanders argued, is successfully take that anger and use Mexicans and Muslims as scapegoats.
“We can make the case,” he said, “that if we really want to address the issues that people are concerned about… we need policies that bring us together.”
Sanders said he has better answers to improving Americans’ lives than Trump does and said demagoguery isn’t a way to solve problems.
