‘Who Says That!?’ MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski Utterly Disgusted by Democrat Wishing Death Upon GOP Lawmaker’s Kids

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski expressed her utter disgust on Monday morning over violent sentiments expressed by Jay Jones, the Democratic nominee for attorney general in Virginia, repeatedly asking, “Who says that!?”

Back in 2022, Jones had told a former colleague in the state’s House of Delegates that he would piss on the graves of Republican lawmakers, shoot then-Speaker Todd Gilbert (R) twice, and that ” he wished Gilbert’s wife could watch her own child die in her arms so that Gilbert might reconsider his political views,” The National Review reported on Friday,

Brzezinski and the Morning Joe crew discussed the scandal on Monday:

BRZEZINSKI: Republicans and Democrats alike are criticizing a candidate for attorney general in Virginia over text messages from 2022 that contain violent imagery. In one message, Democrat Jay Jones suggested that top Republicans in the State House of Delegates at the time, Todd Gilbert, get-, I’m not gonna say it. In another text, he equated Gilbert with Hitler. NBC News reporting that Jones did not deny the accuracy of these texts on Friday night, and says he takes full responsibility for his actions. In a statement, he writes, “I want to issue my deepest apology to Speaker Gilbert and his family. Reading back those words make me sick to my stomach. I’m embarrassed, ashamed, and sorry. Former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, Virginia’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee, swiftly condemned Jones’s comments. They were text messages, horrible, I didn’t want to read them out loud. How did-, I’m wondering how the text messages came to light.

JONATHAN LEMIRE: Yeah, deeply disturbing messages that have been swiftly condemned across the aisle. The Republicans have tried to tie this to the-, Congresswoman Spanberger, the gubernatorial candidate. She did very quickly denounce them. But it’s unclear whether this attorney general candidate will stay in the race. I think there’s a growing sense that he probably should not, we heard President Trump last night. But even some Democratic leaders, John Heilemann, have started to say like, “Look, this is inappropriate.” You can’t, and especially at a time right now with such concern about violent rhetoric and political violence.

BRZEZINSKI: Who says that!?

LEMIRE: Yeah, that this is just way beyond the line.

JOHN HEILEMANN: I would say, you know, not to be too much on the high horse. It’s wildly inappropriate under any circumstances. Today, tomorrow, 10 years ago, six months ago, I think the pressure is going to be on Spanberger to — and for the whole of the party to ask this candidate to just quit the race. Because just both, it’s the right thing. And also the political splashback, you don’t want to mess with this right now.

BRZEZINSKI: Who says that!? And what context did that… strange.

HEILEMANN: This guy should do everyone a favor and step out of that race.
