With Trump Still Talking, CNN and Fox News Cut Away From Live Speech
Even though Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s mid-afternoon speech in North Carolina was highly anticipated, both CNN and Fox News decided to cut away before he was done speaking.
As Trump’s speech approached the 3 PM ET hour, Fox News host Sandra Smith and CNN’s Brooke Baldwin cut in and focused programming on different subjects. Both networks switched the discussion to recent accusations of sexual assault that have been made against the GOP candidate.
After a short panel discussion on her program, Smith tossed coverage to Shepard Smith, who didn’t go back to the speech. Over on CNN, Baldwin brought up a breaking Washington Post story on a woman who said that Trump put his hand down her skirt in the early 90s. (Smith also mentioned this after cutting off Trump’s speech.)
Meanwhile, MSNBC largely ignored the speech, instead focusing on Gloria Allred’s press conference surrounding another Trump accuser, a former Apprentice contestant.
