Wolf Blitzer Grills Dem Sen. on Recount Efforts: If Trump Did This, You Would Object

Wolf Blitzer put Senator Chris Coons on the hot seat tonight about Jill Stein‘s push for a recount and if he would be as okay with it if Donald Trump did it.

The Delaware Democrat distinguished between Stein’s recount efforts and Trump “undermining” the system with his baseless tweet about voter fraud, but Blitzer asked him if what Stein is suggesting in pushing for the recount is similarly undermining:

“If Hillary Clinton would have won, the Democrats were all afraid that Donald Trump wouldn’t accept it, he would demand recounts, and this would go on and on and on. So it sounds a bit hypocritical to observers who are watching all of this. Why are the Democrats supporting… Jill Stein’s effort to have a recount in these three battleground states?”

Coons said that Stein is well within her rights here and insisted there’s a serious difference between what she’s doing and what Trump is saying.

Blitzer added, “You would have been adamantly opposed to it if Donald Trump had lost the election, Hillary Clinton won, and he was doing what she was doing right now.”

At one point, Coons noted how Trump lost the popular vote and used that to argue he does not have that big a mandate.
