Wolff Hits Trump Over Book Criticism: ‘Less Credibility’ Than ‘Anyone Who Ever Walked on Earth’

Michael Wolff, author of the upcoming book on Trump World that has rocked Washington D.C. this week, appeared on Today this morning — to defend his book and return fire at a president enraged by his reporting.

NBC News’s Savannah Guthrie started by asking Wolff about the cease and desist letter President Donald Trump’s lawyers sent to the publisher of Fire and Fury.

“What I say is, where do I send the box of chocolates?” Wolff quipped, explaining the threat of legal action has only boosted sales of his highly publicized book.

Guthrie pressed Wolff on how much White House access he was granted, invoking Trump’s tweet from Thursday night in which he claimed he granted the author no access.

“What was I doing there if he didn’t want me to be there?” Wolff asked. “I absolutely spoke to the president. Whether he realized it was an interview or not, I don’t know, but it was certainly not off the record.”

Wolff added that he has spent three hours in total with Trump, over the course of the campaign and during his presidency.

In an attempt to explain the president’s aggressive reaction to his book, Wolff explained “Trump will attack, he will send lawyers’ letters — this is a 35-year history of how he approaches everything.”

“I work like every journalist works, so I have recordings, I have notes,” Wolff pointed out. “I am certainly and absolutely, in every way, comfortable with everything I’ve reported in this book.”

When Guthrie asked if Wolff would ever release his recordings, “since [his] credibility is being questioned,” the author dumped on Trump.

“My credibility is being questioned by a man who has less credibility than, perhaps, anyone who has ever walked on Earth at this point.”
