Embattled White House National Security adviser Mike Waltz is officially out of the job, according to CBS News’ Jennifer Jacobs.
Waltz, who invited The Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg into a high-level Signal chat in the original Signalgate fiasco, is the first departure from the President Donald Trump’s National Security team.
Sources at Fox News also confirmed Waltz was out, with reporter Jennifer Griffin citing “incredible instability” and turmoil in the National Security agency.
Waltz’s deputy, Alex Wong, was also ousted.
News of Waltz’s impending departure was first reported by journalist Mark Halperin earlier Thursday.
Halperin claimed in his report that special envoy Steve Witkoff, was Trump’s most likely option to replace Waltz.
