CNN’s Kaitlan Collins Says Trump Shipped Golden WH Decor From Mar-a-Lago — Plans to Turn Rose Garden Into ‘Patio’
CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins said President Donald Trump shipped golden cherub decorations from Mar-a-Lago to the White House and plans to “pave over” the grass in the Rose Garden to make it resemble the patio at his Florida resort home.
Trump spent the weekend at Mar-a-Lago watched airstrikes in Yemen when he wasn’t golfing his way to “the Golf Club Championship, probably my last, at Trump International Golf Club.”
It’s a resumption of the pattern that drew outsize attention from the media during Trump’s first term.
But according to Collins, Trump has also taken steps to make the White House more like the Florida resort where he holds court with his iPad playlist.
In a video report on CNN’s Instagram channel, Collins took viewers inside the many changes Trump has made to the decor in the Oval Office — including golden “cherub” decorations that were shipped in from Mar-a-Lago — and Trump’s plan to pave over the grassy expanse in the Rose Garden:
So you already know that President Trump is working to dramatically reshape the federal government, but he’s also looking to transform another historic aspect of the presidency, and that is the Oval Office.
Since President Trump moved in nearly eight weeks ago, he has more than tripled the number of paintings that you see hanging on the walls of the Oval Office.
A lot of them are former presidents who once occupied that space. And I’m told Trump had his eye on some of them. He knew which ones he’d like to see hanging in the walls of the Oval, as every president has the chance to redecorate when they move in.
But several others he actually flipped through a catalog and looked through a national collection to see which ones he’d like to see hanging on the walls. There’s so many that there’s almost not really any wall space left when you’re inside the Oval.
But the president hasn’t stopped there. Also in keeping with a style that he has adhered to for decades, there’s a lot more gold inside the Oval Office.
If you look above the mantle, there are several golden figurines lined across it. And often when the president is greeting a world leader, sitting in those two chairs before the fireplace, you can see the golden medallions that are now in front of it.
And if you look over to the tables, the side tables, you can see golden figurines of eagles placed there.
If you look closely above the doors, the president actually had these golden cherubs shipped in from his Mar-a-Lago club in South Florida and has placed those there as well.
Now, I’ve been inside the Oval several times. It definitely still has that historic look to it that you’ve known for decades. but it certainly has much more of the Trump stamp on it these days.
I’m also told he’s not stopping there. When you look outside the windows of the Oval Office to the Rose Garden, work is expected to start any day there now on Trump’s effort to try to reshape it by essentially paving over at the Rose Garden, that grassy area that you see where presidents hold ceremonies or press conferences, and he wants to make it more of a patio style and put pavers down and have it look essentially like where he holds court often at Mar-a-Lago with his friends and allies.
He’s personally reviewed those blueprints and even met with the curators as he seeks to put his stamp not just on the Oval Office, but really the entire West Wing in general.
