‘Do. The Right. Thing!’ Schumer Makes a Stirring Direct-to-Camera Plea to Speaker Johnson About the Border Bill on MSNBC
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) pleaded with his counterpart in the House, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), to bring the newly-agreed upon bipartisan border bill to the House floor.
Appearing on MSNBC’s Morning Joe Monday, the New York Senator made a direct-to-camera appeal to Johnson.
“Do. The right. Thing!” Schumer said. “You know what the right thing to do is. You know we need to fix our border. You know that it has to be bipartisan. The bill that you passed didn’t get a single Democratic vote in the House or the Senate. How are you going to get anything done? Or do you just want to make a speech … You say the border is in chaos. Do something about it. Don’t just politically posture.”
Johnson, on Sunday, said the bill would be “dead on arrival” in the House. But Schumer insists that if it were brought to a vote, the bill would pass.
“If he put this bill on the floor of this House right now, it would pass,” Schumer said. “It would get a lot of Democratic votes, and it would get a good number of Republican votes.”
