FBI Director Kash Patel Shoots Down Epstein Conspiracy Theories: ‘He Hung Himself’
FBI Director Kash Patel threw cold water on a popular conspiracy theory surrounding the death of Jeffrey Epstein.
During a Senate appropriations hearing on Thursday, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) quizzed the FBI Director about the circumstances surrounding the death of Epstein.
“Jeffrey Epstein hang himself or did somebody kill him?” Kennedy asked Patel
Patel replied by saying that he accepts that Epstein died by suicide.
“I believe he hung himself in a cell in the Metropolitan Detention Center,” Patel said.
The comment is particularly notable from Patel — who, prior to taking over as head of the FBI, regularly trafficked in Epstein conspiracy theories. He repeatedly accused the FBI of sitting on Epstein’s client list and said that he’d push for it to be released on Day 1 of the Trump administration.
With 108 days now having passed since President Donald Trump was inaugurated, and 77 days having passed since Patel was confirmed as FBI Director, Senator Kennedy — like many on the right — wants to know where the Epstein files are.
“Are you going to release all the information about that?” Kennedy asked.
“Senator, we are working through that right now with the Department of Justice,” Patel said.
“When you think you’ll have it done, Kash?” Kennedy asked.
“I think in the, in the near future, sir,” Patel responded.
Kennedy, visibly frustrated with the lack of a timetable, offered up a snarky reply.
“Like, before I die?” Kennedy said.
“Senator, we’ve been working on that, and we’re doing it in a way that protects victims, and also doesn’t put out into the ether information that is irrelevant for a production of the public such as CSAM [child sex abuse material],” Patel replied.
