FBI Believes Co-Conspirators May Have Placed IEDs in French Quarter in NOLA Terror Attack – CNN

CNN senior justice correspondent Evan Perez reported Wednesday afternoon the FBI is looking for as many as four people who might have helped the suspect in the New Year’s Day terror attack that left at least 10 people dead and dozens more injured.

UPDATE: CNN is now reporting that investigators now believe the video they thought showed the four suspected co-conspirators may show four other people who are not the suspected terrorist’s conspirators.

Just after 3:15 a.m. CT on Wednesday morning, police said 42-year-old Shamsud Din Jabbar mowed down a crowd in the French Quarter in a rented truck. The Texan was reportedly wearing military garb carrying an ISIS flag and armed with an AR-15-style rifle.

Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police that left two officers hospitalized. The FBI said at a news conference from New Orleans Wednesday afternoon that Jabbar had explosives and the agency did not believe the suspect acted alone.

On CNN’s The Lead, Perez told guest host Phil Mattingly what he had heard. Perez reported police were seeking three men and a woman who might have strapped explosives to Jabbar’s vehicle before the attack.

Well, the key question, obviously, is the help, the additional associates that the FBI assistance special agent in charge was mentioning.

And what we know at this point, Phil, is that they have the FBI has recovered video surveillance video that appears to show three, three men and one woman appearing to help put IEDs, what are believed to be IEDs at locations in the French Quarter.

Now, we heard from the FBI that there were additional potential explosives that were found during the search later this morning, and they were rendered safe during the day today. And so the surveillance video appears to show those people either helping to put those devices there or being close by.

Again, that’s part of this investigation now to find those people, to ask them whether they were involved in some way that they helped build the explosives or were they just, you know, perhaps standing by. All of those things are on the table for the FBI.
