Marjorie Taylor Greene Moves to Censure Rashida Tlaib for ‘Leading an Anti-American and Anti-Semitic Insurrection’
Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) moved forward with her censure threats against Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) by introducing a resolution to force a House vote.
For days, Greene has promised to bring a resolution to censure Tlaib while accusing her of leading the protest held at the U.S. Capitol last week where pro-Palestine demonstrators demanded a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. Tlaib attended the pro-Palestine protests in D.C., and the progressive congresswoman has drawn controversy even among her fellow Democrats for ignoring Hamas’ atrocities and parroting their false claims.
On Thursday, Greene sought recognition on the House floor and declared notice of her resolution against Tlaib:
The form of the resolution is as follows: a resolution censuring Representative Rashida Tlaib for anti-Semitic activity, sympathizing with terrorist organizations, and leading an insurrection at the United States Capitol complex.
Greene proceeded to claim that Tlaib’s “insurrection” at the Capitol “put members of Congress, their staff, and Capitol visitors in danger by shutting down elevators, stairwells, and points of egress while obstructing official business in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.” She also called out Jewish Voice for Peace — one of the groups involved in the protest — over their support for the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
“By leading an anti-American and anti-Semitic insurrection on October 18, 2023, Rashida Tlaib followed Hezbollah’s orders to carry out a day of unprecedented anger,” Greene claimed. “Now therefore be it resolved that Representative Rashida Tlaib be censured, Representative Rashida Tlaib forthwith present herself in the well of the House of Representatives for the pronouncement of censure, and Representative Rashida Tlaib be censured with the public reading of this resolution by the speaker.”
Greene’s attempt to censure Tlaib follows her frivolous, repeated attempts to impeach President Joe Biden and her other political foes. This time, however, even Democrats like Rep. Jared Moskowitz (FL) are on board with the effort to censure Tlaib — though it’s likely he and other Democrats would strongly object to the term “insurrection” being included.
