President Joe Biden is beating former President Donald Trump in a pair of new national polls, and has led Trump in 17 national surveys this past month.

Polls showing Trump leading Biden have gotten a lot of attention, even prompting the president to complain directly to reporters last month that they don’t report polls showing him beating Trump.

This week, a battleground poll showing Trump with a lead in six of seven states made the rounds, but a pair of new polls have Biden up nationally by as much as four points.

A Marquette Law School poll released this week shows Biden with a four-point lead among likely voters — an eight-point swing from the last poll:

MILWAUKEE – A new Marquette Law School Poll national survey of registered voters finds President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump each to be the choice of 50% of registered voters. Among likely voters, Biden receives 52% and Trump 48%.

In the most recent prior Marquette Law School Poll, conducted Feb. 5-15, 2024, Trump was the choice of 51% and Biden the pick of 49% among registered voters, while Trump won 52% and Biden 48% among likely voters.

Biden’s approval rating went up three points in a new Marist poll, which also showed Biden with a two-point lead over Trump:

Biden also narrowly leads Trump in a head-to-head match up by 2 points, 50% to 48%, a statistical tie though it’s the first time Biden has hit 50% since Marist began asking about Biden vs. Trump.

Biden also maintains that 2-point lead (43%-41%) when third-party candidates are introduced. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. pulls in 11%, Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate, gets 2% and college professor Cornel West, 1%.

In polls compiled by FiveThirtyEight.com this past month, Biden has led Trump by as many as five points in 17 polls, while Trump has led Biden in about the same number — unless you consider polls that include third-party candidates. Almost all of those matchups show Trump with a slight lead.
