Rashida Tlaib Ignores, Runs Away From Reporters Asking Her About Statement Blaming Israel For Gaza Hospital Strike

Rep. Rashida Tlaib

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) ignored reporters confronting her over her unfounded statement blaming Israel for an attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip, instead slipping into a waiting car outside of the Capitol Building Wednesday afternoon.

As a number of outlets — including the New York Times and Associated Press — lent credence to Hamas’ claim that that an Israeli airstrike had killed hundreds in and around the hospital, Tlaib poured fuel on the fire Tuesday.

“Israel just bombed the Baptist Hospital killing 500 Palestinians (doctors, children, patients) just like that,” wrote Tlaib on X. “@POTUS this is what happens when you refuse to facilitate a ceasefire & help de-escalate. Your war and destruction only approach has opened my eyes and many Palestinian Americans and Muslims Americans like me. We will remember where you stood.”

She also retweeted a Rutgers University professor who claimed, “Israel using the most advanced weapons technology just struck the Ahli Hospital in Gaza City and initial reports say 500 patients and doctors and nurses and took out vital humanitarian infrastructure in the middle of a broader genocidal attack.”

Since then, the facts on the ground as well as American and Israeli intelligence have indicated that the explosion at the hospital was likely caused by a misfired rocket from a Palestinian terrorist organization inside of Gaza, prompting many, including Tlaib’s colleague Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), to call on her to take down her posts blaming Israel.

But the posts remain up, and the congresswoman will apparently not be taking any questions about her unfounded accusations. Shortly after the House failed to elect a speaker in a vote early Wednesday afternoon, Tlaib ducked multiple reporters asking about her posts.

“Tlaib wouldn’t respond just now when I asked if she had considered taking this post down, after Biden said he believes Israel didn’t bomb this hospital,” reported Punchbowl News’ Max Cohen.

National Review‘s John McCormack told a similar story.

“I just asked @RashidaTlaib multiple times why she hasn’t deleted this tweet—and whether she has seen evidence that refutes it,” noted McCormack, who said she “refused to say anything as she rushed from the House floor to a car waiting to pick her up outside the Capitol building.”

After Hamas’ brutal attack on Israeli civilians that left over 1,400 dead, and saw others raped and kidnapped earlier this month, Tlaib ignored a Fox News reporter’s questions about whether Israel had the right to defend itself.
