‘Situational Patriotism’: Joe Scarborough Rips Republican ‘Rigged DOJ’ Narrative Despite Hunter Biden Verdict
MSNBC Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough accused Republicans of “situational patriotism” and claims that the Biden administration has weaponized the Department of Justice or a rigged justice system persist, despite the criminal conviction of President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden on Tuesday.
Since the verdict, a chorus of Republicans and Trump allies have simply folded the idea that the trial was rigged into the framing, echoing the Trump campaign’s statement to CNN Tuesday that the trial was “nothing more than a distraction from the real crimes of the Biden Crime Family.”
Wednesday’s show opened with a clip of Rep. Jim McGovern (D-MA) ripping the idea that “Biden orchestrated the conviction of his own son in order to justify the criminal charges against [former President Donald] Trump.” McGovern labeled the reaction Trump Derangement Syndrome and “cult” thinking.
As the clip ended, Scarborough echoed the representative’s words: “That is how you think when you’re in a cult.”
The host began: “You know, we hear about situational ethics; in the case of Republicans, it’s situational patriotism. They love the justice department when their opponents are being prosecuted.”
He continued: “They love American democracy when their candidates win. But if they lose elections, suddenly, they hate American democracy, and they think it’s corrupt. If Donald Trump is convicted of crimes, of felonies 34 times, suddenly they hate the justice system. But if it goes the other way for them, situationally, it’s okay.”
“Such hypocrisy,” he added.
