A new poll of likely participants in the upcoming Iowa Republican Caucus conducted by Suffolk University released on Thursday indicates that former Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley may hold a significant lead over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis just a few days out from the contest.
The survey of 500 respondents was conducted between January 6 and 10, has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4%, and measured the preferences of Iowa voters whether or not former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie dropped out of the race, which he did on Wednesday.
The more relevant question that excluded Christie found that former President Donald Trump holds the hearts of 54% of likely caucus-goers and commanding 32-point lead over the second place Haley, who finished with 22%.
DeSantis (13%) and Vivek Ramaswamy (6%) rounded out the field.
Even in the now-hypothetical case that Christie had remained in the race, Haley finished in second place with 20%.
Suffolk University poll of 500 likely Iowa GOP Caucus voters:
Trump 54
Haley 20
DeSantis 13
Ramaswamy 6

The results are notable given the DeSantis campaign’s focus on the Hawkeye State, where he has visited all 99 counties and secured the endorsements of Governor Kim Reynolds and social conservative leader Bob Vander Plaats. The Iowa Caucus is set to take place on January 15.
Haley boasts a large lead over DeSantis in New Hampshire, which will hold the second contest of the 2024 Republican primary cycle on January 23.
The RealClearPolitics average of polls in the Granite State indicates that Haley (29%) is within striking range of Trump (43.3%), especially after Christie’s (12%) exit. It has been presumed by many that Christie’s supporters will likely flock to Haley now given the former candidate’s anti-Trump campaign and similarities to Haley on policy.
