Former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump claimed that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp (R) has been having trouble getting President Joe Biden on the phone in the wake of Hurricane Helene on Monday.
The only trouble is that Kemp had already told the press about a call he had with Biden, and that he appreciated the president’s offer to provide further assistance.
On Monday, Trump visited Valdosta, Georgia, where he was asked about Kemp’s response to Helene and told reporters that “the governor’s doing a very good job,” but claimed he was “having a hard time getting the president on the phone.”
“I guess they’re not being responsive, the federal government is not being responsive,” he continued. But they’re having a very hard time getting the, getting the president on the phone. He won’t get on and of course the vice president, she’s out someplace campaigning, looking for money. So they got to be, they have to be focused over here. It’s too big, this is a really bad one. The governor is doing a good job, but he’s having a hard time getting the president on the phone. They’re being very non-responsive.”
But earlier in the day, Kemp had already told the press about a conversation he had with Biden.
“The president just called me yesterday afternoon. I missed him and called him right back,” Kemp explained to reporters. “And he just said ‘Hey, what do you need?’ And I told him, you know, we got what we need, we’ll work through the federal process. He offered that if there’s another things we need just to call him directly, which I appreciate that.”
In addition to appearing to lie about Biden’s communications with Kemp, Trump also accused Vice President and Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris of leaving “Americans to drown,” and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) and the federal government of “going out of their way not to help people in Republican areas,” in posts on Truth Social Monday.
