2 Ukrainian Fighter Jets Reportedly Shot Down in Eastern Ukraine

Ukraine’s defense ministry reported Wednesday that two Ukrainian fighter jets had been shot down in eastern Ukraine. The White House has not confirmed the attacks.

The attack comes less than a week after the downing of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17, which allegedly was shot down by Russian-backed Ukrainian separatists who mistook the commercial plane for a military one.

Attacks on Ukrainian planes have become more common in the region in recent weeks; two were hit by surface-to-air missiles, of the type the Russian separatists recently got their hands on, the day before MH17.
