Alabama School Asks Students for Canned Goods to Throw at Intruders

An Alabama middle school is asking students to bring in canned goods, but not for the reason you’re thinking. No, they wanted the canned goods to throw at potential intruders.

Yes, you read that right.

According to The Spectrum, the principal of W.F. Burns Middle School said in a letter to parents, “We realize at first this may seem odd; however, it is a practice that would catch an intruder off guard.”

It’s a way, she explained, students can protect themselves should dangerous situations arise. But don’t worry, these middle schoolers won’t be armed to the hilt with cans; the canned goods will be stored in classrooms.
