American Airlines Pilot Dies Mid-Flight En Route to Boston
A flight from Phoenix, Ariz. to Boston, Mass. had to make an emergency landing in Syracuse, N.Y. following the death of its pilot.
According to the Boston Globe, the captain of the American Airlines crew aboard the flight, who has not been identified, was unable to pilot the plane during its early morning flight to Boston on Monday.
The first officer was able to take over and land the aircraft in Syracuse at 7:10 a.m. ET. Emergency medical personnel on the scene pronounced the captain dead on arrival.
The crew of the 147-passenger flight was subsequently replaced, at which point it completed its journey and landed at Logan International Airport in Boston at 12:30 p.m. ET.
American Airlines spokesperson Michelle Mohr told the paper, “We’re incredibly saddened by this event, and we’re focused on caring for our pilot’s family and our colleagues.”
