Army Helicopter Crashes During Training Exercise in FL; 11 Presumed Dead
A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter crashed last night during a training exercise and the 11 servicemembers aboard are reportedly presumed dead. There were two helicopters that took part in the exercise, but one of them made it back without incident.
The helicopter crashed near the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, in the middle of some extreme fog. The fog even delayed attempts to go to the crash site.
There have been reports today of human debris being discovered and potential fatalities. The White House and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter issued statements expressing condolences to the families of the servicemembers on board.
Maj. Gen. Glenn Curtis of the Louisiana National Guard held a press conference this afternoon saying they are conducting a search and rescue mission. You can watch part of the presser here, via CNN:
