Bachelor Lindsey Graham Suggests a ‘Rotating First Lady’ If Elected President

Graham-080106-18270- 0005Republican senator Lindsey Graham was asked by the Daily Mail on Tuesday about the question no one was asking: “Who would be his First Lady?” A lifetime bachelor and presidential candidate, Graham jokingly commented, “I’ve got a lot of friends. We’ll have a rotating first lady.”

Graham’s ascension to the White House would make him the first presidential bachelor since Woodrow Wilson. Before suggesting that the title of FLOTUS would swing amongst any future dates, Graham also said, “I’ve got a sister. She could play that role if necessary.”

Darline Graham Nordone introduced the senator when he announced his intention to run. She previously said that she would take on a public role in her brother’s campaign, but also that her immediate family and position as a public information director would make her too preoccupied to take on the First Lady’s usual roles in Washington D.C.

“If he had a wife and family, he would really be torn,” Nordone told The Washington Post about Graham’s single status. “He wouldn’t want to sacrifice his family’s happiness for the job. I’ve always had him, but who did he have? Breaks my heart.”

Later in the interview, Graham suggested that the White House would be a fun place to regularly host his former colleagues in Congress. “If I get to be in the White House, I’ll bring Members of Congress and their families down. We”ll interact like Ronald Reagan did,” said Graham, marking a contrast with President Obama. “We’ll have a lot of chances to get to know each other. I’m a social kind of guy.”
