Backing Trump, Coulter Criticizes New York Times for Saying Cruz Is a ‘Natural Born Citizen’

This morning, Donald Trump brought back one of his political calling cards by bringing up questions of whether Ted Cruz‘s birth in Canada means that there would create complications if he became the Republican Party’s presidential nominee.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter has defended Trump through thick and thin on his campaign, and today, she took to Twitter to hit the New York Times for defending Cruz’s constitutional eligibility:

In another tweet, where Buzzfeed’s Andrew Kaczynski addressed how Trump flip-flopped from when he said Cruz’s citizenship was unquestionable, Coulter had an answer for that too:

Trump’s remarks have already been seen as a callback to his history of challenging the authenticity of President Obama‘s birth certificate.

“It’s a problem for him, and it’s a problem obviously for the Republicans,” Trump said on Morning Joe. “Let’s assume he got a nomination and the Democrats bring suit, the suit takes two to three years to solve. So how do you run? So, it’s certainly a concern, I guess, for the party.”

Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother and Cuban father, and he held dual-citizenship for years until he became senator of Texas. So far, Cruz has tried to dismiss the development by once again accusing the media of setting them up for a fight, and by tweeting a video clip from the “jump the shark” episode of Happy Days.

It would be worth considering that when the “birther” type questions first appeared for Cruz in 2013, Coulter emphatically said that Cruz was a U.S. citizen who could run for president.
