Bari Weiss Slammed by Liberals for Praising Parent’s ‘Racist’ Letter to Elite Private School

Former columnist at the New York Times Bari Weiss, has been lambasted on Twitter after praising a letter from a parent at Brearley, an elite New York private school, that said he was pulling his daughter from the school due to the schools “antiracism initiatives.”
The $54,000 a year all-girls school in Manhattan’s Upper East Side now asks students to take an “anti-racism pledge.”
The letter focused on the school’s emphasis on teaching about systematic racism in America. The father claimed, “We have not had systemic racism against Blacks in this country since the civil rights reforms of the 1960s.”
He continued by calling the school’s antiracism policies “misguided, divisive, counterproductive and cancerous.”
This is not the first time Weiss has waded into the muddy waters of the cancel culture debate. She very publicly left the NYT op-ed editorial staff over claims that the paper was too beholden to critics on Twitter. Her new Substack newsletter frequently focuses on cancel culture-related topics.
Weiss praised the letter calling it an “absolute barn-burner.” People on Twitter disagreed and called the letter racist.
Just so I’m clear @bariweiss – you believe that systemic racism against African Americans in this country doesn’t exist? https://t.co/9CZc4c8m0y pic.twitter.com/sEnIAg9HSX

Racist thirst is the ugliest. I wouldn’t click if it had the winning Powerball numbers. https://t.co/reZHaD2lKE

I’m actually glad she posted this because even though many people seem to believe that “racism magically stopped in the 1960s,” this guy actually comes out and says it directly. https://t.co/PGzZucqBaR

like Tucker, more folks feeling free to wave that racist flag
curious why they feel so emboldened these days https://t.co/gHhqWwFD4z

An editor would have flagged “absolute barn-burner” (good use of a dash, though) as a sad cliche so this is part of why Substack is bad. Also: this post is just terrible. https://t.co/BFInLKXXQT

Hoping the dam holds but please do read the dad’s letter if you’ve ever wondered how Tucker Carlson would’ve written Shelby County https://t.co/SzBlsLHoGF

This barn-burner denies that there’s been systemic racism in the U.S. since the 1960s. His daughter must be mortified. https://t.co/2EGWpuosd6

“We have not had systemic racism against Blacks in this country since the civil rights reforms of the 1960s.” Take that, “reality.” https://t.co/nJFLw5rum3

Because obviously the dam breaking at a private school that costs $54,000 a year would be representative of broader social trends. https://t.co/ZeIvrOGuNI

Oh, man. The only things/people worse than the letter and the man that wrote it are the responses.
We’ve got so…far…to…go…to simply be humane. https://t.co/oS0juiS4LA

The letter from the father about his daughter’s school, which has been completely captured by woke halfwits, is flat out brilliant. The courage it must have take to write it! Bravo! ? ? ? https://t.co/oQwlCdIlbd
